This 6 Days Tour is foreseen for people with average physical fitness, but experienced paddlers and beginners are welcome. Our plan is to have a genuine Croatian adventure in "Pomalo style". We follow the shoreline and explore hidden bays, caves and beaches, sleep under the stars in secluded bays, take regular lunch and swim breaks and occasionally go hiking.
The following itinerary should be seen as an approximate guide only. Our program may change depend on the local weather conditions and preferences of the group.
Packing kayak the right way is crucial, and as we share the load - do not take any unnecessary things, too much clothes or bulky items. The 20L dry bag should be enough for your personal items.
First we head towards the old town of Rab. Maybe a coffee break on our way to Kalifront forest. There are many emerald bays before we reach the small Island of Maman in the village of Supetarska Draga on the north side of the Rab island. If the group is more casual-type or we advance slowly, we can set up a campsite in the Kalifront forest and reach the Maman island on the second day.
From Maman we head towards cape Sorinj, a rugged peninsula where you will notice a drastic change in vegetation. The bura wind is the strongest on that point, but if the weather is nice it is an amazing place to enjoy lunch and swim in the turqouise sea. We’ll then cross the bay and reach Lopar peninsula - a known tourist destination famous for its numerous sandy bays and beaches.
On the third day we’ll paddle to the Islands of St. Gregory* and Goli, a notorious former political prisons from the socialist era.
*The restaurant on the Gregory Island serves calamari, fish and meat dishes. Sometimes we eat dinner in the restaurant if we stay for the night in the area. The restaurant has a generator so you can charge your phones while having a drink. The restaurant is open from late April to mid-September.
We’ll leave St. Gregory and paddle back to Lopar peninsula (Rab). After rest on one of the beaches and lunch we’ll head to one of the most interesting places ob the island - the Geo-Park.
Our first stop is "Medova Buža" cave, in which you can jump from a 3m high hole and then dive out through a short underwater tunnel. Dinner under the stars and amazing look on Velebit Mountain on the Ilo Beach.
After breakfast we’ll enjoy paddling the second half of the Geo-Park. In the bay of Mag we’ll have a swim and lunch. Optional part of the tour is to paddle to Zavratnica Fiord on the mainland, part of the Nature Park Velebit.
Pudarica Beach is the final point of our tour, but depending on the paddling speed and energy of the team, we might continue even further and end in the starting point of the trip. However, the trip must not end too late in the day since we still need to empty the kayaks, load them onto the trailer and drive back to the base camp.
