Our 2013 tour

  Dear Paddlers  

This is our new  tour where you can enjoy in beautiful enviroment. We will sail off with our mothership combining kayaking and sailing.Our new home for the next 11 days will be the boat with a soul. Bente Dorte was built in 1929 in Skagen, Denmark. She was built as a sailing fishing trawler, and spent her whole active life fishing in the North Sea.Than in 2001 a great people and our new friends Rebecca and Krešimir Vidas have bought her and spent 7 years restoring her.After changed 55 planks, put in a new deck,  installed all new engine and electrical systems, replaced the old engine cooling system, picked a mast in a forest and shaped it, designed and made by hand all the rigging and sails... they have started an odyssey from Sweeden to Croatia.This boat have so many stories to tell but you'll find that out through this adventure.

Intresting sights : The old town of Rab , Geological Park Rab , Prisoner Island of St.Gregory, Griffon Vultures Islands of Plavnik and Cres , Islands of Lošinj,Pag and Krk with amazing scenery....

Day 1 | Arrival

Crikvenica is easy to reach from any direction or from any town or airport.Once you arrive you will be situated on board.We can arrange airport transfer on request.

Day 2 | Crikvenica-Baška

We'll get up early, have breakfast and sail across the channel to reach the picturesque town of Vrbnik on the Island of Krk. Vrbnik is an old Mediterranean medieval town situated on the 48 meters high cliff.
First time mentioned in XII century, Vrbnik is famous spiritual centre with many churches inside city walls. Here is also Vitezic library with almost 10 000 books. When you arrive we will have a short guided tour and presentation of “Glagolica” by Anne Katherine Godec (Kathi).  This is an introduction to some of the other activities we have planned for you this trip!

There are many wine yards in this part of the island and the main production is the famous “Vrbnicka Zlahtina” wine. This wine is well known in all parts of Croatia and often prize winning.

After a short visit we'll set off with our kayaks toward the town of Baška. We'll paddle under high cliffs of the NE coastline with swim stops on remote and small hidden beaches. Then we'll reach a bay of Mala Luka where on the hill are the ruins of the fortified town of Corinthia and a church from the early Byzantine age. From here there is also a great view on both bays Velika (big) and Mala (small) Luka. For those who wants to have more adventure on this first day we can paddle all the way to Baška while others will go with our boat. The extra distance is 6 Nm. Overnight on board.

Day 3 | Baška - St.Gregory Island     

You will spend the day with Kathi hiking the Baska Glagolitic Trail and the path of shepherds, and a close up view of the “mrgari”.  "Mrgari" are dry wall buildings that take the shape of stone flowers. "Mrgari" are intended for the temporary collection and classification of sheep. These beautiful examples of local architecture can only be found on the southern part of the Island of Krk and the uninhabited neighbouring island of Prvic.

We will have dinner on board, and in the evening we can go out and explore Baska. We’ll either do a night transfer to the Island of St.Gregory or stay in Baška depending on hte weather conditions

Day 4 | Grgur - Rab    

The Island of Grgur  is known as the political prison and we’ll visit some sights before paddling under the steep cliffs of this Island. The next Island on our way is the Island of Goli (naked island) also known as formal political prison but much bigger than St.Gregory. We’ll spend the afternoon hiking, exploring and  listening the history of this prison Island . Lunch will be served on board while sailing to the Island of Rab or to be more exact to its NE side. Thanks to its diversity and stone variety this area has recently proclaimed to be a Geological Park. We’ll paddle under high and steep cliffs, paddle inside some caves and even jump in one of them. There will be few beaches on the way where we’ll have a swim.We’ll get on board and sail to a bay near the town of Rab.

Rab is the most historical Island of the area and it has a status of the town (municipium) from the  2'nd century and the Old town fortifications are  dating back 10 years B.C.

We can have an organized visit of the town.

Day 5 | Rab-Pag-Beli on Cres 

We’ll sail to the Island of Pag and paddle under his rugged lime stone coastline exploring bays and cliffs. At the cape Lun we’ll load kayaks on the deck and sail towards the Island of Cres. After some more paddling we’ll get on board and sail to the town of Beli situated on a high hill. There is a big pebble beach under the town and nice little bar. Beli is known as the Griffin Vulture sanctuary.

We go to check in at the Pansion Tramontana, where you will have a welcome drink. We then go visit the eco center “Caput insulae “ in Beli, enjoy a guided tour and then return to the Pension Tramontana via an ancient roman path. In the evening you will be served dinner.

 Day 6 | Tramontana Exploration  

After breakfast a guide will show take you on a 2 hr hike to Filozića, where you will visit a small wine cellar. A traditional lunch by an open fire is followed by bus transfer back to Pension Tramuntana where you have a local home made honey samping.

Day  7  | Beli - Lubenice

After breakfast at Tramontana we’ll start our day from the beach of Beli paddling under the Vulture nesting area. When the Sun will be high we will sail along the coastline with swim rests. Our new section of paddling will get us to the bay of Lubenice. This town is situated on 370 meters high cliff with rocky slopes. We’ll spend the night on the boat with a view on Lubenice and big white pebble beach situated under the Town.

Day 8 | Lubenice - Unije - Susak 

Before we anchor in the bay of Susak for a night, we’ll paddle around the Island of Unije and explore the bays and shallow waters .We will also visit the town. Then we’ll go across to Susak to paddle the part of the Island as well. These two Islands are unique for their history.

Day 9 | Susak - Lošinj - Meli   

We’ll paddle a part of Susak and than sail toward the island of Lošinj where we’ll have a swim break and then sail again to the Island of Cres to his South side called Punta Križa. This cape is rich with  flora and fauna. Punta Križa is an area of perfect tranquility with  dense forest and hundreds of animals such as deer, fawns, big horn sheep  and birds like owls and hawks.In the summer time when there is more people they hide inside the forrest.We’ll spend the night anchored in the bay of Meli (sand) . 

Day 10 | Meli - Plavnik    

Breakfast on board as usual. Today is our long day in the kayak as we will explore a lot of caves and cliffs where the Griffon Vultures are nesting. Some of the caves are home of thousands of bats. The geological history has made this part a unique place to paddle.We'll make swimming stop before we reach our ship and sail to the Island of Plavnik where we will be anchored. 

Day 11| Plavnik - Krk - Crikvenica 

We’ll paddle a short distance before we sail of to our final destination on the Island of Krk from where we will have organized transfer to the airport!
